Description

ID#:4809 - : The favus on this patient’s scalp is due to the fungus T. schoenleinii. The crusted lesions, or “scutulae”, were removed.

Favus is a chronic form of tinea capitis, or ringworm of the scalp, caused by the fungus Trichophyton schoenleinii. It is distinguished by its yellow, saucer-shaped crusted lesions, or “scutulae”, and permanent hair loss in the affected areas.
