Description
English: Gender scholar and cultural activist Dr Gabrielle Hosein plays mas in the Carnival band SS Bad Behaviour, presented by 3Canal Jouvay, February 12, 2024, in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. Kala Pani, "dark water", is the sea that brought Indian immigrants to the Caribbean during the colonial period. The costume also depicts a Midnight Robber, a traditional character portrayed in the Trinidad Carnival.

Carnival takes place annually in Trinidad and Tobago, with the biggest celebrations centred in the capital city of Port of Spain, where there is a two-day parade of mas bands. Jouvay (j'ouvert) is a pre-dawn procession which opens Carnival Monday.
