The heavy-rail tracks at left would have been part of the Northern Pacific Railway along the north shore of Lake Union. Originally built by the Seattle, Lake Shore and Eastern, these tracks were decommissioned in 1971 and became part of the Burke-Gilman Trail in 1978.
