Summary[edit]

Description 330-PSA-103-61 (USN 710895): World Record Holders. Commander Patrick L. Sullivan, left, pilot and Lieutenant Beverly W. Witherspoon, co-pilot, check flight data in front of U.S. Navy Sikorsky/HSS-2 helicopter. They claimed a world record in the craft with a speed of 194.9 miles per hour at Windsor Locks, Connecticut. The two Navy fliers are assigned to the Naval Air Test Center at Patuxent River, Maryland. The previous world record speed was 166.6 miles per hour made by the Russian HIL-6 in 1959. Photograph released May 17, 1961. (9/22/2015).
