Description 330-PS-6440 (USMCA 49864): Secretary of the Navy Robert B. Anderson pins the Letter of Commendation Ribbon with medal pendant on Marine Master Sergeant John T. Gain, for meritorious conduct as a Prisoner of War. Looking on are four other Marines who also received the award today for conduct in the hands of the Communists. From left to right: Lieutenant Colonel William G. Thrash; who received a Gold Star in Lieu of a Second Award of the Legion of Merit; Lieutenant Colonel John N. McLaughlin, Legion of Merit; Major Walter R. Harris; Legion of Merit; and Captain John P. Flynn, Navy-Marine Corps Medal. Photograph released January 11, 1954. (4/14/2015).
