Summary[edit]

Description 326 & 328 East 4th Street between Avenues C & D in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City were built c.1899 in the Greek Revival style. In 2010 the Uranian Phalanstery and First New York Gnostic Lyceum Temple, which owned the two buildings, decided to move uptown, and sold the buildings to developed Terrence Lowenberg, who planned to add two additional stories to the original three, and engaged architect Ramy Isaac to design the project. Preservationists, concerned about the role of the buildings in the Jewish history of the Lower East Side, mounted a compaign to get them landmarked, but failed to do so. The buildings are seen here in 2012, with the two new stories and the exterior nearing completion. (Sources: [1], [2])
