Title
2nd Ave. and Yesler Way, ca. 1920
Description

Transcribed from photograph: "Seattle Streets. Second Ave. ca. 1920. Looking southeast from Yesler Way. Photo by Asahel Curtis."

Yesler Way runs from upper left (east) to lower right (west); Second Avenue from lower left (roughly north) to upper right (roughly south).

It's likely that this actually dates from earlier than Seattle Public Library says. On the corner business is a sign that says "Rainier Bohem[ian] Davidson's". Rainier and Bohemian were both local beers. Alcohol prohibition in Washington state began in 1916. (Of course there is some chance that a sign simply hadn't been removed.) Can't be any earlier than 1914, though, because the Smith Tower is completed. Also, below that "Juicy Fruit" billboard it says "Shanghai Restaurant". Pretty sure that was open for about 4 years in the mid-1910s.
