Description
English: A 274 mm/45 Model 1887/1893 railroad gun captured by U.S. troops near Rentwertshausen, County of Schmalkalden-Meiningen, Thuringia, Germany, on 10 April 1945. The 274.4 mm guns were originally French naval 10.8 inch guns of pre-dreadnaught battleships used as railroad guns by the French during the First World War. This gun was captured by the German Army in 1940.
Deutsch: Ein von U.S.-Truppen erobertes 274 mm/45 Model 1887/1893 Eisenbahngeschütz in der Nähe von Rentwertshausen, Kreis Schmalkalden-Meiningen, am 10. April 1945. Es handelte sich ursprünglich um ein französisches Marinegeschütz 10.8 Zoll eines Einheitslinienschiffs, wurde von Frankreich im 1.Weltkrieg in ein Eisenbahngeschütz umgebaut und 1940 von der Wehrmacht erobert.
