Description
English: Following the opening of a nuclear power station at Lubmin, a branch was constructed from Greifswald for both freight traffic and workmen's trains. Passenger services started up in 1970 and as seen here a lengthy platform was constructed. Trains operated to cater for the shift patterns, at the height of traffic levels three 5 car double deck sets in with DR class 100 (Class 202 as above) in between to power. This provided 1,500 to 1,600 seats capacity and up to 9 return workings per day were timetabled.

However the plant was progressively closed down from 1990 and by the time of the visit in January 1995 the service was down to around four trains per day and lightly used. Having run round, 202.475 is ready to work train 8206, 10:04 Lubmin Werkbahnhof to Greifswald. The line was to survive until 1999.

Despite the lack of internet information back in 1995, somehow I managed to obtain bus timetable and local road route information to walk from here to nearby Spandowerhahen to pick up a bus to Wolgast. This enabled myself and friend "Marra Man" to carry on to visit the lines on the island of Usedom.
