Final stop in Romania of the 3-hour run from Craiova to the Bulgarian border town of Vidin sees 962005 on train R1091 make a 8 minute booked stop with a group of stray dogs eating food scraps thrown on to the platform. The station has been rebuilt and line electrified from the Bulgarian side and plans are eventually extend electrification through to Craiova. Soon after Golenţi, the recently new line through to Vidin branches off the CFR line to Calafat. The line through to Vidin shares the 4-lane New Europe road bridge opened in 2013 repacing the ferry service over the river Danube. Rail services have met with much less use than the road. Initially from opening in 2013, two long distance international trains each way per day used the link. However services have been reduced to just one 2-coach railcar per day. |
