One of three DMU "end of the line shots" taken in July 1984, during an "All Line Rover" holiday. These three are all from North West England. Since then many of the branches have never been visited since. However since late 2011, I am attempting to visit many again even if it is a case of re-photographing for a "then an now" on the same Flickr page. At the time of uploading (April 2012), Windermere is still on the list to be revisited. I did come close in April 2008 having walked from Ilkley to Windermere, the journey back south was jeopardised by engineering works. As such on that occasion I left Windermere on a rail replacement bus as far as Preston! Seen here on 23 July 1984 is Carlisle Kingmoor depot allocated class 108 sets formed of cars 53973, 54262, 53969 and 54252. Note the bars on the door windows, fitted to prevent passengers leaning out of windows due to clearance restrictions on the Cumbrian coast line. The train seen here was the 12:22 Windermere to Oxenholme. |
