Summary[edit]

Description
English: A C-17, flown by the U.S. Air Force, takes off from Phoenix Airfield near McMurdo Station, Antarctica. The flight transported some U.S. Antarctic personnel who had spent the 2020 austral winter in Antarctica. Phoenix Airfield is located on the Ross Ice Shelf. The snow is compacted to the point of being as hard as concrete.
