Summary[edit]

Description

To the left of this is Tower 9 of 10 (running out Radio Road, from west to east) on <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Bruno_Mountain" rel="noreferrer nofollow">San Bruno Mountain</a>, the 1319-foot ridge that isolates San Francisco from the rest of the Peninsula. To the FCC, it is ASR (antenna structure registration) number 1010566. All the lines at the top of this shot feed Tower 9

<a href="https://www.fybush.com/sites/2011/site-110916.html" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Scott Fybush in 2011</a>: "Tower 9 is the original KRON-TV/FM tower, now used by KTSF (RF 27/virtual 26) and by KRZZ 93.3)." It was part of a complex built by KRON, then the NBC TV affiliate on channel 4, in 1949.

Perhaps the longest tenant on this tower was <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KTSF" rel="noreferrer nofollow">KTSF/26</a>, which had been broadcasting after the digital transition on channel 27, but <a href="https://fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=TV&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=25076ff3633cf6a60163470ef5151935" rel="noreferrer nofollow">relinquished that channel in the spectrum auction</a>, and is now, in the great repack, a "guest" of <a href="https://fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=TV&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=25076ff3633cf6a601633d187b0a0000" rel="noreferrer nofollow">KDTV-DT</a>, virtual channel 14, pre-repack on channel 51, and post-repack on channel 20. It broadcasts from <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Allison" rel="noreferrer nofollow">Mount Allison</a> in the East Bay.

At the top now is the four-bay antenna of KRZZ/93.3 fm, which has radiated from a number of other sites around the Bay. In my time there (starting in 1985), it was on the KOIT/1260 (originally KYA) tower on Candlestick Hill, moved up to San Bruno after that tower was dropped in a storm, and then moved to the East Bay hills while maintaining an auxiliary transmitter on the new KOIT tower, and eventually moving back here.
