Summary[edit]

Description
English: A Boeing-757 aircraft, operated by the Royal New Zealand Air Force, at McMurdo Station's Phoenix Airfield. This 14 March flight was the first transportation to McMurdo Station in several weeks, as the austral winter begins. The view is to the north, with Observation Hill and Arrival Heights of Hut Point Peninsula, Ross Island visible in the distance. The steam in the middle distance is due to open ocean water between Phoenix Airfield, which is located on the permanent ice of Ross Ice Shelf.
