| Description |
The next generation of the Chevrolet Malibu family sedan. Unlike previous Malibus, which had been limited to North America, this Malibu is a global model. It was first unveiled in Shanghai earlier in 2011, and the first market to get this Malibu will be South Korea, where it replaces the Daewoo-designed Epica. Unifying the Malibu and the Epica into this single, global Malibu is one way GM can reduce redundancies in its operations - something the Japanese competitors had been experts at in the 1980s and 1990s. US production of the Malibu remains at Kansas City, Kansas, just like the current Malibu. Among all the US-market midsize cars, the Malibu is the "traditional American" - it is built in the US with US-built powertrain. The Ford Fusion is Mexican built with high levels of non-US content, and the Asian transplants, even when built in the Bible Belt with high levels of US parts, have had their engineering done overseas.
