Deutsch: 31.01.2009 04769 Mügeln: Markt, Nordbebauung. Mügeln ist eine alte Bischofsstadt. Die städtische Ansiedlung mit Marktplatz, Rathaus und Stadtkirche wurde im 13. Jahrhundert von den Bischöfen von Meißen gegründet, die hier einen ihrer Herrschaftssitze unterhielten. In der mittelalterlichen Welt waren die Bischöfe nicht nur geistliche Oberhirten, sondern auch Reichsfürsten, und als solche übten sie überall dort, wo sie ihre weltliche Herrschaft durchgesetzt hatten, die Landeshoheit aus. Die Bischöfe von Meißen beherrschten das Land um Stolpen und Wurzen. Hinter den Bürgerhäusern steht die Stadtkirche, Pfarrkirche St. Johannis (GMP: 51.237243,13.047326). Sie wurde 1373 zum ersten Mal genannt. Über diesen mittelalterlichen Vorgängerbau ist jedoch nichts bekannt. Die heutige dreischiffige spätgotische Hallenkirche entstand Anfang des 16. Jahrhunderts. In das Kirchenschiff ist ein Westturm eingestellt. Die oberen Turmgeschosse, dazu Haube und
