Deutsch: 13.08.2008 01097 Dresden-Leiziger Vorstadt: ADW, Arzneimittelwerk Dresden (GMP: 51.064827,13.734838), Leipziger Straße 7 (7-13). Zurück geht das Unternehmen auf zwei Vorgängergesellschaften. Zum einen entstand 1835 eine Drogerie durch Franz Ludwig Gehe. Nach dem II. Weltkrieges kam es zur Enteignung und Weiterführung als Volkseigener Betrieb. Zum anderen entstand durch die Gebrüder Madaus eine Fabrik. Beide Betriebe wurden 1951 zusammengeschlossen und hießen VEB Arzneimittelwerk Dresden AWD. In den Folgejahren wurde das Werk zum größten Arzneimittelhersteller der DDR und beschäftigte rund dreitausend Menschen. 1990 erfolgte die Umwandlung zur Firma AWD und der Verkauf an ASTA Medica als Degussa-Tochter. In den Folgejahren kam es zu weiteren Verkäufen und Aufspaltungen. Kernkompetenzen des sächsischen Unternehmens sind die Entwicklung und Herstellung sowie der Vertrieb von Arzneimitteln. Im Geschäftsjahr 2014 wurden 1.600 Tonnen an Arzneimitteln produziert. 2006 wurde AWD.pharma durch die Gruppe Menarini übernommen und anschließend die historische Firmierung von Heyden wieder eingeführt. Denn 1874 gründete Friedrich von Heyden das Dresdner Unternehmen.
