Description

2000 Reynard Mercedes-Benz CART Racecar Appeared in the movie Driven (2001)

In 1978, racing legend Dan Gurney, along with other top team owners such as Roger Penske, created a new open-wheel racing series in the United States after disagreements with Indycar's governing body. This new organization was known as the Championship Auto Racing Teams, or CART. CART racing became extremely popular in the 80s and 90s, with racing legends Mario Andretti, Bobby Rahal, Emerson Fittipaldi and Nigel Mansell all taking part in the series. Similar to Formula 1 cars, CART cars were primarily made of carbon fiber, weighing a scant 1,540 pounds. In the 2000 season, these cars were powered by 2.65-liter turbocharged V8 engines making a staggering 950 horsepower, propelling the drivers to 100 miles per hour in only 4.2 seconds. This car was driven by Sylvester Stallone's character on camera in the 2001 movie Driven.
