A Committee from the State of North Carolina visited this Park September 28th, 1926, and selected a site for a State monument, which is shown by the red square on this map. This Committee consisted of two members, viz: General A. H. Boyton, C. S. A., and Hattes Murphy. Speaker of the House of Representatives of North Carolina. E. B. Cope, Superintendent.
