Description1st Air Cav UAS units transition into new hangar 140812-A-WD324-023.jpg |
English: Unmanned Aircraft System Troopers with the 1st Air Cavalry Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division have began transitioning into the recently opened Fort Hood UAS Maintenance Hangar, which provides more space for Gray Eagle aircraft, UAS operators and maintainers at Robert Gray Army Airfield, West Fort Hood, Texas. Since opening in July, the hangar has began housing Air Cav’s two UAS companies – Company F, 227th Aviation Regiment, 1st Air Cav. Bde., 1st Cavalry Division, and Company E, 227th Aviation Reg., 1st Air Cav. Bde., 1st Cav. Div., and provided room for 12 Gray Eagles per company, an improvement from their old hangar which housed only five, while simultaneously facilitating four civilian companies of contractors. The facility was designed specifically for the implication of Gray Eagle UAS, and is the second of its kind – the first being at Fort Stewart, Georgia. Compared to the previous hangar the Soldiers occupied, this one provides more than double the space and allows for convenient storage of aircraft, as well as ample space for necessary parts to keep UAS flying. |
