These were a sales flop in Australia. I remember Ford in the US wanting to sell 10,000 a year here, but in the 3 or 4 years it was on sale in Australia, under 5,000 were sold! We only got the sedan, while the Japanese and New Zealand markets, also received the wagon. The face of the exported Taurus, was used on the USDM Mercury Sable. This was our first taste of a large family FWD sedan from Ford, which didn't go down well with Australian buyers. The similar sized Australian RWD Ford Falcon, which sold along side of this, smashed it in the sales race! |
