Summary[edit]

Description

Seen at Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles, California.

The 1978-1981 Toyota Celica was a popular sports compact in its day.

Toyota's California design studios, Calty, was responsible for designing this Celica to fit American motorists' tastes. Calty was the first design studio set up by a major car company in Southern California.

This particular Celica, shown a GT Liftback, was a very common sight in Southern California well into the new millennium, though now it is hard to find. This was the second generation for a model that had seven generations of successes in the US market; the Celica was discontinued after 2005 model year as sporty compacts lost their popularity, though the Scion tC has been a successor of sorts since then.
