Summary[edit]

Description

Seen at the famous Auto Collection at The Quad (formerly Imperial Palace), Las Vegas.

Hongqi (红旗 - "Red Flag") was China's first indigenous automotive brand, and the CA770 was its definitive model, built in limited numbers from 1963 through 1980. The CA770 was used exclusively for dignitaries and Communist Party officials. It is said that when US President Richard Nixon made his historic visit to China, and wanted to ship in his own limousines as is usually the case for all US Presidential visits overseas, China insisted that Nixon ride in the "mechanically superior, more comfortable" Hongqi limousine while in China.

This example arrived in the US via a classic car exchange between the US and China, and is the very first Hongqi in the US.
