Summary[edit]

Description

The XA Falcon Sedan was built From March 1972- Sept 1973. (Hardtop from July 72) The GT, mechanically very similar to the XY GT, got functional bonnet scoops, fake air intakes on the front guards. The GT was built with racing in mind. A tribute to the 1974 Hardie Ferodo 1000 winning car, after a long racing career, the original car was riddled with fractures and stress cracks, it was considered beyond repair, so John Goss himself had the car stripped, the shell dumped at the tip. He used a spare SVO shell he had stored away, left over from his racing activities, all the stripped parts from the original car were used on the rebuild. In 1973, the original car was put on pole position by John Goss, leading the race on lap 110, was involved in an accident, and never finished the race. Teamed with Kevin Bartlett, Gossy returned to Bathurst in 1974, in the same car, repainted from yellow to blue (after losing Shell as their major sponsor) They started on the 2nd row of the grid behind the Toranas of Brock and Bond. The race was marred by driving rain, Brocks engine failed and Bond was black flagged. Goss and Bartlett won the race.

To celebrate the victory, Ford Australia released a limited edition XB Falcon Hardtop in 1975 called the John Goss Special.
