Description

American Motors Corporation (AMC), 1954-88, was formed from the merger of Nash-Kelvinator Corporation and Hudson Motor Car Company. The Javelin was a 'Pony' Car built from 1967 to 1974 only available as a 2 door, 4 seat Hardtop. (the 2 seater was the AMX). Available in Base, SST (better appointments including reclining front seat, wood grained door trim, and a sports steering wheel) Australian Motor Industries (AMI) assembled right hand drive versions of the Javelin in Victoria, Australia, from CKD kits. The right hand drive dash, interior and soft trim, as well as other components were locally manufactured. The cars were marketed under the historic Rambler name, this is one of 90 Rambler Javelins built by AMI in South Melbourne in 1968. Engines were 145hp 232, 170 252 6 cyls and 225hp 190 V8, also available was the Go package (280hp 343 cu in V8, disc brakes, heavy-duty suspension, dual exhausts, wide body-side stripes, and Magnum 500 styled road wheels) AMC also built in 1968; The compact Rambler American, in base 220 (2 or 4 door Sedan) and upmarket 440 (4 door Sedan and Wagon). Also the top of the line Rogue Hardtop Coupe The AMC Rebel, in base 550 (2 door Convertible, Hardtop, 4 door Sedan and Wagon), top 770 (2 door Hardtop, 4 door Sedan and Wagon) and sporty SST (2 door Convertible and Hardtop)

The full size car was the AMC Ambassador, in base 2 door Hardtop and 4 door Sedan, upmarket Diplomat (2 door Hardtop, 4 door Sedan and Wagon) Sporty SST (2 door Hardtop and 4 door Sedan)
