Description

The 1955 Pillared Starlight Coupe and the Commander Hardtop Coupe got a new name in 1956, the Studebaker Hawk. In 1956, the Pillared Coupes were the Flight and Power Hawk Hardtop Coupes were the Sky and Golden Hawk. For 1957, the Flight and Power Hawks were replaced by the Silver Hawk. For 1959, the only Hawk available was the Silver Hawk In 1960 they were called just the Studebaker Hawk. 1961 Hawks got a coloured stripe on the rear fins. The shape changed in 1962, the final development of the Hawk, now called the Gran Turismo Hawk, the fins were gone, and it got thick C pillars. The front was updated in 1963 with round parkers replacing rectangular. The Studebaker Jet Thrust engines were available in the 1963; 240hp 259 V8 R1 Jet Thrust, 289hp 259 V8 R2 Super Jet Thrust (Paxton Supercharger) 335hp 259 V8 R3 Supercharger plus aluminium intake The outer grilles changed again in 1964, the last year, now with a half vinyl roof, a Hawk emblem appeared in the grille and S ornament on the hood above.

In 1962 and 63 some models were assembled in Melbourne.
