Summary[edit]

Description

The Plymouth was introduced in 1928, Chryslers lowest priced car. From 1953, the base model was the Cambridge (2 door Club or Business Coupe, 2 or 4 door Sedan and 2 door Suburban Wagon) The top model was the Cranbrook, replacing the Special Deluxe (4 door Sedan, 2 door Club Coupe, 2 door Convertible and the 2 door pillarless hardtop, the Cranbrook Belvedere). From 1951-52, they were referred to as the P-23 Series. In 1953 the body shape was updated, the P-24 Series, with sleeker and more modern styling. The windshield went to a modern one-piece unit; and the door handles pulled out instead of twisting. The Cranbrook 4 door sedan was also built in Australia from 1951-57, Australian design input was minimal, although major body panels were locally produced. Although the P-24 was the last Cranbrook in the US, Australia continued production with the P-25 from 1954-57. Three models were offered, the Cranbrook was now the base model below the Savoy and Belvedere. Based on the P-25, two other cars were also sold along side the Plymouth, the Dodge Kingsway and the Desoto Diplomat, only adding their own front end styling and badges. From 1956 a coupe utility variant was offered in addition to the four door sedan.
