Title
1942 Early Medieval D shaped buckle.JPG
Description
English: Cast copper alloy D-shaped buckle length 15mm, width 21mm, 4mm, thickness weight 3.61g. Narrowed strap bar (2mm diameter) which is flanked by two animal heads, the ears and nose are visible in relief. The forward edge of the buckle is considerably expanded and has an oval cross section (5mm wide, 4mm thick). the artefact is heavily corroded resulting in the loss of all of the detail and leaving a mid brown pitted surface. The style of the animal heads is reminiscent of the Ringerike and Urnes style, suggesting an 11th century date.
