Summary[edit]

Description
English: In 1908, a competition was held to design the first New Zealand Coat of Arms. Previously New Zealand used the coat of arms of the United Kingdom, but after Dominion status was given in 1907 a new coat of arms was considered to be appropriate.

This entry, "Altera Britannia Austri Sub Cruce Florescens" is designed by "Lakhuau" and was one of 75 design submissions entered in the competition, most of which are held at Archives New Zealand. Page 1 of 4.
