Mont-Saint-Jean Farm, newly redesigned approaches

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Since "ever", the road linking Brussels to Charleroi ran along the façade of the farm – as can be seen on the 1770-78 Ferraris Map, folio 78 (Braine la Leud). Over the years, asphalted, enlarged, numbered N.5, the road kept running close to the façade.

After the renovation of the Mont-Saint-Jean Farm in 2011-2015 for the bi-centenary of the 18 June 1815 Battle of Waterloo, a previous project designed to streamline traffic and create a pedestrian and bicycle track was updated to incorporate the new "Farm", by then converted into a restaurant, brewery, distillery – also incorporating the British Ambulance Museum dedicated to the treatments in use on battlefields at the times of the Battle of Waterloo.

The construction of the present round-about began end of August 2018, due to be completed by the summer 2019, rescheduled for October 2019, target missed. In 2020, works were briefly interrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic but soon resumed end of April to be finally completed by end of August – including a living hedge as finishing touch.
