Description
English: Het Waterloo Vijfe 1815/2015 : commemorative coin to the bi-centennial of the 18 June 1815 Victory of Waterloo.

Coin : diameter 29mm ; weight : 10,5 g ; silver-plated.
Shown : encapsulated edition (coin-card) ; mintage : 15000, numbered.

Het Waterloo Vijfje 1815/2015 was issued by the Koninklijke Nederlandse Munt (Royal Dutch Mint) on 15 June 2015.

The obverse portrays the reigning King Willem-Alexander (b.1967).

The reverse (shown) depicts Prince of Orange’s hat (the future King William II), inspired by the famous canvas by J. W. Pieneman (1779-1853) : "De Prins van Oranje tijdens de slag bij Quatre Bras" (1824), preserved in the Paleis Soestdijk, The Netherlands.

The painting owes its celebrity to the largely circulated lithography by Fr. B. Waanders (1809-1880), published in 1840 : ►(File:18 June 1815 – Victory at Waterloo – "De Prins van Oranje tijdens de slag bij Quatre Bras".jpg), to the point that its focal point, Prince of Orange's hat, was selected for the present commemorative coin.
