The 1889 Dumoulin-Krebs gyroscope

Summary[edit]

Description
English: In 1889, Arthur Krebs added an electric motor of his own to the Dumoulin (builder of the Foucault gyroscope) marine gyroscope, in order to give a gyrocompass to the french experimental submarine Gymnote. Giving the Gymnote submarine the ability to keep a streight line under water during several hours, it allowed her to force a naval block in 1890.
