English: Published in July 1870, when Canada took possession of Rupert's Land following the Red River Rebellion, this cartoon appeared just three years after the birth of Canada in 1867. Canada is depicted as a child, with Great Britain, represented as Mother Britannia, holding out her protective arms. Uncle Sam, representing the United States, stands on the other side, ready to "grab" the child if it falls.
Deutsch: Erschienen im Juli 1870, als Kanada Besitz von Ruperts Land nahm im Anschluss an die Red River Rebellion. Diese Karikatur erschien nur drei Jahre nach der Geburt von Kanada im Jahr 1867. Kanada ist als Kind dargestellt, mit Großbritannien, dargestellt als Mutter Britannia und sie hielt ihre schützenden Armen auf. In deze karikatuur wordt Canada afgebeeld als een kind, met Groot Brittannië als moeder Britannia, die haar beschermende armen uitsteekt. Uncle Sam, de personificatie van de Verenigde Staten, staat aan de andere kant, klaar om het kind te "grijpen" mocht het vallen.
