1813 Crossing of the Rhine, Kaub & Pfalzgrafenstein Castle

Summary[edit]

Description
English: The Rhine : Pfalzgrafenstein Castle, and, on the opposite (right) bank of the Rhine : the town of Kaub – on the hill, the medieval fortress Gutenfels.

Seen from next to the landing spot of Feldmarschall Blücher's Army crossing of the Rhine, early January 1814 :

Quotation : Caub, principally remarkable as the spot where Blücher crossed the Rhine with his army on New Year's night, 1814. It was from the heights above that the view of the Rhine first burst upon the Prussians, and drew forth one simultaneous and exulting cry of triumph.
(MURRAY, John, A Handbook for Travellers on the Continent : Being A Guide through Holland, Belgium, Prussia and Northern Germany (...), 2nd edition, 1838, 254).
