Title
17th or 18th century clay smoking pipe
Description
English: The bowl and part of the stem from a clay (smoking) pipe. The bowl is undecorated and barrel-shaped, with a sub-circular flat base and short spur. The bowl is at a slight angle to the stem. The base is unmarked.

The pipe fragment weighs 13.8g. It is 62.5mm long, and its stem has a diameter of 9.9mm, with a central tubular perforation of 3.5mm diameter. The entire pipe is 29.3mm high from spur to rim, and the bowl has an internal diameter of 12.9mm. Its walls are 3.3mm thick.

The narrow bowl is suggestive of an early date, though its angle is less steep than 16th century examples. This pipe probably dates to the latest 17th or early 18th century.
