Description
English: John Thomas Ewing "Jack" Gowlland was born July 10th, 1838 in Kent and was a celebrated naval commander who spent periods of time residing and working in Australia. He had a successful career as a naval surveyor, taking responsibility over the NSW Coastal Survey in 1866, most areas which were covered had not been surveys since the time of Captain James Cook. He was married and had 3 children to wife Genevieve Gowlland nee Lord, passing away in 1874 when he drowned and was buried in the Northern Shores in Sydney. The House is located in Miller St, North Sydney.
