Summary[edit]

Description The converted carriage house at 158 Prospect Place between Carlton and Vanderbilt Avenues in the Prospect Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York City is partially hidden from the street, at the end of a narrow 100 foot driveway. It was built c.1887 for John T. Pirie (of the Chicago department store Carson, Pirie & Scott), who lived at 181 Park Place, and was designed by John V. Porter in the Second Empire style, with a mansard roof. The carriage house included a single-family apartment, which was probably used by Pirie's groom. The house is located in the Prospect Heights Historic District. (Source: "Prospect Heights Historic District Designation Report")
