Description

I was fortunate to cover this line in May 2003 shortly before the historic electric operation finished on a day-to-day basis. Located in the Baden-Württemberg region of Germany, this 5km branch connects the town of Trossingen to the Rottweil to Villingen line at Trossingen Bf. Opened in 1897 and electrified from the start at 600V dc. The railcar seen here, T3 was one of the newer ones and built by Maschinenfabrik Esslingen in 1938. In July 2003, the regular operation was taken over by Hohenzollerische Landesbahn AG (HzL) using diesel units. However a short reprieve for electric operation resumed the following year due to a shortage of HzL railcars. The line still operates as a museum line with electric traction.
