Description 111-SC-92993: Doolittle Raid on Japan, April 18, 1942. Lieutenant Colonel James H. Doolittle, USAAF. Wires a Japanese medal to a bomb, for "return" to its originators in the first U.S. air raid on the Japanese Home Islands, April 1942. Photographed on board USS Hornet (CV-8), shortly before Lt Col. Doolittle's B-25 bombers were launched to attack Japan. Also at NHHC as NH 102457. U.S Army Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/05/02).
