PIONEER WOMAN'S GRAVE

THE LAST RESTING PLACE OF A PIONEER WOMAN WHO DIED IN 1845 WHILE ENROUTE TO WESTERN OREGON BY OX TEAM OVER THE OLD BARLOW ROAD WHICH PASSED NEAR THIS SPOT.

THE BARLOW ROAD WAS BUILT IN 1845-46 BY SAMUEL K. BARLOW AN OREGON PIONEER FROM KENTUCKY. BEING THE FIRST ROAD OVER THE CASCADE RANGE IT WAS USED BY MANY EMIGRANTS TO THE WILLAMETTE VALLEY AND ALONG ITS ROUTE ARE LANDMARKS WHICH RECORD

THE EXPERIENCE AND HARDSHIPS OF THESE EARLY PIONEERS.
