תיאור: פתח תקווה - בטחון והגנה
הערות: פתח-תקוה הייתה גם אם השמירה. תחילה נעזרו בשומרים ערבים. כשהתחילו התנכלויות ערבים הועברה ההגנה לשומרים יהודים. במאורעות 1921 הבריטים דחו בקשה לפרוס צבא מסביב. וועד הגנה בראשות אברהם שפירא וסגנו אבשלום גיסין ביצרו את המושבה עם עמדות מגן. במאורעות 1929 לא נפגעה פתח-תקוה פגיעה קשה. במאורעות 1936 - 1939 הייתה הגנה והערבים נמנעו מפגיעה ישירה אבל היו מארבים בדרכים המוליכות למושבה. בפתח-תקוה פעלו המחתרות: ההגנה, אצ"ל ולח"י. פתח-תקוה במלחמת העצמאות הייתה נקודה חשובה במרכז. גם פעלו ממנה במבצעי דני ובתק.
