תיאור: המקום זוהה החל בתקופה הביזנטית עם קריית יערים העתיקה, אליה הובא ארון הברית, מבית שמש, לאחר ששוחרר משבי הפלשתים: וַיִּשְׁלְחוּ, מַלְאָכִים, אֶל-יוֹשְׁבֵי קִרְיַת-יְעָרִים, לֵאמֹר: הֵשִׁבוּ פְלִשְׁתִּים, אֶת-אֲרוֹן ה'--רְדוּ, הַעֲלוּ אֹתוֹ אֲלֵיכֶם;
הערות: היא כנסייה השוכנת בקצהו הצפון-מערבי של הכפר אבו גוש, והידועה בעיקר בשל פסל נישא על גגה של המדונה והילד הניצבים על ארון הברית. הכנסייה ניצבת בגובה של 756 מטר מעל פני הים, על פסגתו של תל קריית יערים, המכונה בערבית בשם "דיר אל-אזהאר", והיא צופה לכל סביבותיה. במתחם המקיף את כל שטח פסגתו של התל, שוכן גם מנזר נשים של מסדר הנזירות הצרפתי "מסדר האחיות סנט ג'וזף של ההתגלות" והמבנים מוקפים בגן ובחורשת עצים. המקום זוהה החל בתקופה הביזנטית עם קריית יערים העתיקה, אליה הובא ארון הברית.
