הערות: ב1900 היו בראשון לציון 165 דונם שקדים, ב1918 כ4,000 וב 1935 נותרו רק 30 דונם. החקלאים היו בטוחים שהשקדים יכניסו. את השקדים קילפו נשים וילדים בידיים וקיבלו שני גרוש עבור כל פח שקדים מקולפים. את השקדים הפיצה בארץ, ובעולם חברת "כרמל מזרחי". בתחילה היו המחירים גבוהים והביאו לחקלאים הכנסה טובה, אך הם ירדו, בגלל הצפת העולם בשקדים ממקורות שונים, עד שלא היה כדאי לגדלם. עצי השקד גם נפגעו ממחלות שונות והושמדו תוך מספר שנים. בשנות ה-40 נעלם ענף השקדים מראשון לציון, ובמקומם ניטעו עצי תפוחי זהב.
