Summary[edit]

Description
English: Igneous dikes in the Precambrian of Colorado, USA.

Igneous dikes are planar to irregularly-planar igneous intrusions that cut across country rocks. They can be thin or extremely thick & they can be vertical or obliquely-oriented.

The pink-speckled, moderately wide, subvertical body and the thin, oblique bodies are 1.36 billion year old granite dikes that are intruding through amphibolite, a metamorphic rock dominated by the mineral amphibole.

Locality: Blue Creek East outcrop - roadcut along Rt. 50 at milepost 125, Gunnison Uplift, western Colorado, USA
