Description
Français : Evangéliaire de Landévennec : représentation anthropozoomorphique de l'évangéliste Matthieu (exemplaire de la Bibliothèque bodléienne d'Oxford, copie Musée de l'ancienne abbaye de Landévennec). Abrité sous un arc plein cintre, l'évangéliste assis tient dans ses mains les deux instruments nécessaires à la rédaction d'un manuscrit : le calame (morceau de roseau taillé en pointe) dans sa main droite, et dans l'autre un grattoir. Saint Matthieu a pour attribut l'homme, si bien qu'il est représenté à tête d'homme et non d'animal comme les trois autres évangélistes.
English: Gospels of Landévennec: animal representation of the Evangelist St. Matthew (from the Bodleian Library, Oxford, copy from the now ruined Landévennec Abbey in Brittany, France). Housed in a semicircular arch, the evangelist sat holds in his hands the two instruments necessary for the writing of the manuscript: the calamus (piece of cut reed) in his right hand, and in the other a scraper. Matthew is represented with a human head and an animal body, not like the other three evangelists. In the Bodleian Library, University of Oxford, Oxford, England.
