Description
English: Małopolski Instytut Kultury w Krakowie; zobacz więcej: www.muzea.malopolska.pl ;MA-163;;fot. Małopolski Instytut Kultury w Krakowie Together with the knife and needle, they were the only intact fragments found in situ of the equipment from the said grave. These artefacts were originally located in a leather container, whose remains were discovered during exploration of the grave. In the Roman era, graves, scissors – usually iron ones – are found only in men’s graves. They were primarily used for trimming hair and beards. Only in richly furnished graves, like the one in Szarbia, do bronze or silver scissors appear. They were evidence of the high status of the owner but could also have had a ceremonial function.
