Description
English: 020115-N-2722F-004 At sea aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) Jan. 15, 2002 – During a nighttime Pre-Aim Calibration (PAC) firing, one of the ships Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWS) tilts outboard of the ship and fires its 20mm rounds. Phalanx provides ships of the U.S. Navy with a "last-chance" defense against anti-ship missiles and littoral warfare threats that have penetrated other fleet defenses. John C.
