Summary[edit]
Description01 Winkel 16°.svg |
B.: 1°, 2°, 4° ... 8° ... 14°... 20° ... 40° etc.
English: Construction cos(16°), by halving, adding or subtracting angles, you get angles with whole numbers, such as e.g.: 1°, 2°, 4° ... 8° ... 14°... 20° ... 40° etc. |

Ergebnis[edit]
Bezogen auf den Einheitskreis r = 1 [LE][edit]
- Konstruierter Kosinus des Winkels 16° in GeoGebra (Anzeige max. 15 Nachkommastellen) , letzte Stelle gerundet
- Ermittelter
Construction cos(16°) with compass and ruler[edit]
- Let there be a circle around with arbitrary radius .
- Half-line through and gives intersection .
- Half-line perpendicular to through gives intersection and .
- Line segment , circle around through gives intersection .
- Line segments .
- Line segments , circle around through gives intersection .
- Determine the function points:
- Start with point , whose distance to point is equal to the line segment . In the representation described as . In this way also the further function points are defined, as up to the last as (order see short description in the representation).
- Drawing the circle secants:
- It starts with the secant from through until it intersects the outer circle line in . The next secant runs from the last obtained intersection point through until it again intersects the outer circle line in . In this way, the points up to the last point (order can be taken from the course of the secants) are also determined.
- Last secant from to intersects the innermost circle in .
- The final perpendicular from to with base point gives the line segment , its length is nearly equal to the cosine of the angle 16°.
Result[edit]
Relative to unit circle r = 1 [unit of length][edit]
- Constructed cosine of angle 16° in GeoGebra (display max 15 decimal places) , last digit rounded.
- Calculated .
- The absolute error of the constructed cosine is not verifiable in GeoGebra due to display limitations and rounding.
Example to illustrate the error[edit]
For a radius of circumcircle r = 1 billion km (the light would need about 56 min for this distance), the absolute error of the line segment would be < 1 mm.
