Die Grundkonstruktion besteht aus einer horizontalen Zahlengeraden ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$ mit dem Teilungspunkt ${\displaystyle 1}$, zwei vertikalen parallelen Zahlengeraden ${\displaystyle s_{2}}$, ${\displaystyle s_{3}}$ jeweils mit zehn Teilungspunkten ${\displaystyle 1}$ bis ${\displaystyle 10}$ sowie einer Diagonalen ab ${\displaystyle 10}$ von ${\displaystyle s_{3}}$ durch ${\displaystyle 1}$ von ${\displaystyle s_{2}}$ bis zur Zahlengeraden ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$, damit ergibt sich auf ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$ der Scheitelpunkt ${\displaystyle K_{1}}$.

Zur Veranschaulichung der eigentlichen Konstruktion wurde die Dezimalzahl ${\displaystyle 8,6}$ gewählt.

1. Zuerst wird der Teilungspunkt ${\displaystyle 6}$ von ${\displaystyle s_{3}}$ mit dem Scheitelpunkt ${\displaystyle K_{1}}$ verbunden, es entsteht auf ${\displaystyle s_{2}}$ der auf ein Zehntel verkleinerte Wert ${\displaystyle 0,6}$.
2. Nun überträgt (addiert) man den Wert ${\displaystyle 0,6}$ auf ${\displaystyle s_{2}}$ ab dem Teilungspunkt ${\displaystyle 8}$; dies ergibt den Wert ${\displaystyle 8,6}$.
3. Abschließend wird der Viertelkreis vom Wert ${\displaystyle 8,6}$ bis auf ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$ gezogen. Somit ist die Dezimalzahl ${\displaystyle 8,6}$ konstruiert.

The basic construction consists of a horizontal number line ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$ with the dividing point ${\displaystyle 1,}$ two vertical parallel number line ${\displaystyle s_{2},s_{3}}$ both with ten division points and a diagonal from the point ${\displaystyle 10}$ of ${\displaystyle s_{3}}$ through the point ${\displaystyle 1}$ of ${\displaystyle s_{2}}$. Thus is generated the vertex ${\displaystyle K_{1}}$ on ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$.

For the purpose of illustrating the actual construction, the decimal number ${\displaystyle 8.6}$ was chosen.

1. First, the dividing point ${\displaystyle 6}$ of ${\displaystyle s_{3}}$ is connected to the vertex ${\displaystyle K_{1}}$, resulting in the value ${\displaystyle 0.6}$ on ${\displaystyle s_{2}}$, which is reduced by one-tenth.
2. Transfer (added) the value ${\displaystyle 0.6}$ from the dividing point ${\displaystyle 8}$ of ${\displaystyle s_{2},}$ there arises the value ${\displaystyle 8.6.}$
3. Draw a circular arc from the value ${\displaystyle 8.6}$ to ${\displaystyle s_{1}}$ on, it gives the value ${\displaystyle 8.6}$ on ${\displaystyle s_{1}.}$ Thus, the decimal number ${\displaystyle 8.6}$ is constructed.
