Description
English: Depicts Ellen Douglas's surprise at the sudden appearance of James Fitz-James, with the harper Allan-bane in the background (Lady of the Lake, canto IV, stanza 16). Illustrates canto IV, stanza 16, lines 7-8: 'Ellen beheld as in a dream, | Then, starting, scarce suppressed a scream'.
